After a short, majestic opening the tempo remains constant for the remainder of the piece. Picking the correct tempo becomes critical to maintaining the style and allowing the musicians to clearly articulate and express the music in the various sections. In several places there are two contrasting, expressive styles required (legato set against a light, staccato articulation) ... ensure that the two styles are consistent within the instrumental groupings.
Little technical difficulty will be encountered in this work however there is plenty of opportunity for the players to demonstrate their musicianship; allow the bass and tenor instruments at 28 to be expressive with the melodic line; create a precise leggiero at 49 in the accompaniment; the marcato at 57 should be heavy and broad but not aggressive.
