Product Overview
Saints Alive! by Salvationist John Coutts celebrates 2000 years of Christian faith and hope. It tells the story of the Church in every continent and across many centuries. Some saints - such as Peter and Paul - are famous. Schools, cities and cathedrals are named after them. Others are known only through worn writing found on broken tombstones. Most are lost to human memory and unmentioned in history books, but known to God. This book tells the lives of outstanding Christians who have tried to apply the teaching of Jesus to the needs of their own day. Their stories provide a brief history of the Church in outline. There is space to include only a few of the 'great cloud of witnesses' - and because this book is written, first of all, for readers with connections to, or an interest in, The Salvation Army, the book shows where some of the Army's traditions came from and how the Army;s principles fit in with those of the larger Church. This has meant giving extra space to Protestant and Evangelical Christianity. Parts of the Christian story are not to be proud of. Sometimes faith, hope and charity have been pushed out by pride, greed and intolerance. But through it all, the loving flame of the Holy Spirit has continued to burn.
