I am please indeed that this fine book is now available in English, and that the story of The Salvation Army in Brazil will now reach an even wider readership. The Army's history in that vast and complex country is both inspiring and instructive. From a reading of these pages much can be learnt about the ways of God, so often mysterious to us, and about the miracles he can work through the faithful obedience of committed men and woman.It is a story that Salvationist and friends the world over should read and ponder on, for the deepening of their own faith and the better accomplishment of their mission as Christians.
The writing of the original book and its translation have been, like the work it describes, a labour of love - and I would like to thank and commend the author, Commissioner Carl Eliasen, who encyclopedic knowledge of the Brazil Territory has been distilled into the original volume, and Colonel David Gruer for the lucid English translation.
We praise God for the past, and trust him for the future! I believe that God has even greater things yet to do in Brazil through his army of salvation. May the past be our inspirataion for the future! General John Larsson
