Product Overview

(NJS1903) March - Medium/Difficult
Brittney Ling

Originally written for the South Barwon Youth band, this features another of those classic Sunday school songs that came to mind when I was searching for a march for the band to play. While the bandsmen and women were young, they all wanted to be counted and make a difference – a noble thought indeed! Even the young can “Stand Up For Jesus” which is why I felt the two songs would go well together.

The opening and first section should be fairly straightforward. The accented quaver before bar 15 is suddenly very loud and very abrupt; sizzling and short! The same in bar 18. The band should then come in rather comfortably in the march-style at bar 15. The quaver patterns in bars 22 to 23 should “melt” from part to part, as one long moving line through the band rather than featuring any section. A considered diminuendo from the band over bars 24 and 25 will allow the basses to lead, back to bar 7. The Euphoniums on the repeat must be lyrical and legato until bar 15! Resist any temptation to play as the Cornets do!

The short interlude at 26 should feel foreboding and build only from 30, soaring into “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus.” There are brief mentions of “I’m In the Lord’s Army” in the Trombone/Baritones and Euphonium here, with the slurred semiquavers inviting a “silly”, Trombone glissando rather than a strict change of pitch. At the extended melody from bar 38 by part 2, the Horns rather than Cornets should feature here, with the First Cornets keeping the semiquavers light.
The ending should build up gradually and finish with a flourish.
