The face of the mountain that towered over my childhood home gave me the aspiration to, one day, climb to its summit. Mount Sleeping Beauty was at last conquered.
In the intervening years, I had ‘climbed many mountains, forded many streams’, of a different ilk – mountains and rivers that are encountered in the human soul.
There are no mountains in any landscape without the valleys that give shape and form to the heights. I have known valleys of grief, arid landscapes of a ‘waterless’ desert, gardens that enrich the life, forests that enfold; the river of grace that cleanses and keeps the soul. Such is the nature of the human journey.
I offer this book as a guide ot the journey where the reader may find the hope, the joy and peace of traveling with a sense of the abiding presence, and the encouragement, of the Lord.
