Many of us would have learnt this chorus in Sunday School and the meaning of
the words can still present a challenge to each of us.
This setting of the chorus tries to capture the joy we can find in praising and
rejoicing. The style should be light and cheerful … even exuberant. Be careful to
establish a steady tempo as marked; the music may go faster but not at the
expense of losing the ‘feel’.
Attention will need to be given to articulation styles throughout the piece and
careful counting and measurement of rhythms is essential.
The Euphonium solo at 33 could be taken by a trombone if the third part (2nd
Horn & Baritone /Trombone) is adequately covered.
